Cruise ships

Luleå welcomes cruise ships throughout the year! Our port is always open to visits from the rest of the world, and thanks to our state-owned icebreakers with Luleå as their home port we can receive cruise ships in both summer and winter, in thick ice as well as open water.

Cruise ships can normally be moored in Södra Hamn and Svartö Quay, please note that during the period of May-November 2024-2028 Svartö quay will not be available.

Svartön Quay

Svartön Quay is adapted and open to cruise ships up to 200 metres in length, 30 metres in beam and with a maximum draught of 10.70 metres (water depth 11.60 metres). Special examination takes place for vessels exceeding any of these dimensions.

The quay close to the city is open all year, in both summer and winter, with mooring next to the state-owned icebreakers that have Luleå as their home port. Central Luleå is just a few minutes away by bus or taxi from Svartön Quay.

Södra Hamn is adapted and open to cruise ships up to 180 metres in length, 30 metres in beam and with a maximum draught of 7.0 metres (water depth 8.0 metres). Special examination takes place for vessels exceeding any of these dimensions.

At the historic and pretty Södra Hamn, the cruise ship moors in central Luleå a short walk from Luleå city centre with its shops, hotels, restaurants, cultural facilities and entertainment. The quay at the Södra Hamn is open to cruise ships during the ice-free part of the year.
