New port regulation strenghtens security in Port of Luleå
The Luleå Municipal Council has now approved a new Port Regulation – a local set of rules covering matters such as traffic, safety and the environment. It provides clarity for everyone using the port and creates the conditions needed for growth.
– The new Port Regulation gives us an even clearer framework that enhances both safety and order for everyone operating within the port area. It is an important tool for strengthening the port’s role in a growing Norrbotten, says Anna Josefsson, Security and SSE Manager at Port of Luleå.
Port of Luleå’s role is changing due to shifting traffic patterns, larger vessels and increasing demands for efficiency and safety. The new regulation meets today’s national and international requirements, particularly within maritime safety, environmental protection and port security.
– We want to continue developing a modern and safe port. It will now be easier for us to produce detailed regulations describing how all actors in the port must operate, says Anna Josefsson.
Some of the most important changes include:
- Clearer rules on access to the port area linked to maritime security.
- Stricter provisions for dangerous goods.
- Responsibilities between the port owner and the port facility operator have been clarified.
- A new delineation of the port area, giving the port authority stronger support for decisions that may need to be taken regarding vessel safety within that zone.
- Clearer references to current laws and regulations.
